The Know-It-All

Hoop Skirts:
A hoop skirt is a women's undergarment worn in various periods to hold the skirt extended into a fashionable state. When women would wear the wire hoop skirts, it showed how much they valued fashion and self presentation. To wear a cage from your waist down is not very comfortable and just adds extra weight. It would also seem very hard to walk and move around when you are suspended by a cage. I really do not see how hoop skirts were ever in style.

Good Writing

Good writing includes many parts to it, which helps the reader to understand what they are reading. A good piece of writing includes it being well organized so that the reader can understand what they are reading easily and so that the piece of writing flows well. If the writer has written a formal paper or any other type of paper, then the piece of writing should include a strong thesis statement. This thesis statement should include the topic of the piece of writing and also the writers opinion on that topic so that the reader can understand what the piece of writing is about. Good writing also has a lot of supporting details about the topic that the writing is about. This makes the piece of writing stronger as well as supporting the writer's topic. Besides these important parts of good writing, good writing should also have a good idea that is interesting and does not make the reader fall alseep. Good writing contains many important characteristics.

As a teenage boy who has mental disabilities tries to cope with the death of his mother, he learns that his mother is not dead and that his father lied to him. This book shows you how a teenage boy with mental disabilities handles everyday events. Mark Haddon has created a magnificent book that helped me to understand what people with disabilities have to face and how hard life can be for them. Its mysterious mood and unpredictable outcome also make the book more interesting.

10.) Meg Cabot- This is an author that writes about real life experiences, but through the eyes of a teenager who just found out that she is a princess. A few years ago, I read the Princess Diaries series, which are books about a teenage girl who just found out that she is a princess. These books are entertaining and well written books, which show the reader how hard being royalty really can be. I found myself relating to the main character and some of the problems she faced with friends, at home, and at school. Her writing reminded me that being rich royalty is not everything.

9.) Scott Westerfield- Twisting the present day and making a different kind of future, Scott Westerfield has written astonishing books. After reading his Uglies series, Peeps, and the sequel to Peeps, The Last Days, I was able to see our future in a different outcome than people expect. Scott Westerfield has allowed me to view the present and the future different than I imagined in his fantasy books as the main characters struggle through the situations that they face. The Uglies series was exciting and made me understand how the future is going to hold many problems for us, even with better technology that we could create. Scott Westerfield also showed me how our present life today is full of problems and danger when he created a different problem on our Earth in his book. In Peeps, a person named Cal has become a “peep”, which is the name for a vampire. With these “peeps” on the loose, New York City becomes in danger of the vampires spreading throughout the population. This book and it’s sequel show our world in a different way with all of the chaos from this problem. This helped me to remember all of the problems that our world is facing today.

8.) Lemony Snicket- A few years ago I read The Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket and I have been able to remember this series for quite some time. Lemony Snicket wrote about three orphaned children who are plotted against by an evil man. These books are unpredictable and despite all of the tragedies that occur in these books, I found myself not being able to put these books down. Besides being unpredictable, they are action-packed. They are also filled with mysteries that the main characters have to figure out before their enemies do. Although these books can be quite gruesome, they are interesting and eventful.

7.) Frank McMillan- Even though I have only read one of this author’s books, I find him to be an remarkable author whose book brought tears to my eyes. I read his book Cezanne is Missing, which is a mash up of the Holocaust history, mystery, and love story. An art teacher, who is a Holocaust survivor, is threatened by a group of Russian men who want to know where her brother hid famous paintings during the Holocaust. I found myself in tears as the art teacher tells her story of her experiences during the Holocaust to her grandson and neighbor. Even though this book had many sad parts, it was still action-packed and had many turning points. The turning points and suspense intrigued me.

6.) J.K. Rowling- This famous author is known throughout the world for her Harry Potter series and is also the author of other books. I have read her Harry Potter series, which are about the magical world of wizards, witches, and other magical creatures. Her incredible Harry Potter series are fascinating and intriguing as Harry and his friends face the world of wizardry and dark magic. This series never disappoints the reader and always has spectacular events taking place.

One of her bestselling series is The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, which is the astounding story of four different girls who are best friends and find a pair of pants that keeps them connected in the summer. The books focus on the troubles that they face and how they are always there for each other. This series reminded me of the value of friendship and taught me many valuable life lessons.

4.) Melissa De Las Cruz- She is the author of the Blood Bloods series and the Au Pair series. I have read the Blue Bloods series, which are an exciting and mysterious set of three books. These books are about vampires that live in New York City and about all of the problems that they face when a bad type of vampires called silver bloods return. I love the excitement and mystery of these books as readers have no clue what is to happen next. De La Cruz wrote the books in a way that I could connect to the teen characters whether they were teen vampires or teen humans. Although they are vampires, I was able to relate to what they were going through and many of the problems that they faced.

3.) Sarah Dessen- This amazing author writes about real life experiences that some people encounter on a day to day basis. Some of her books that she has written are This Lullaby, Dreamland, Keeping the Moon, and many others. As I read these books about real life experiences, I could connect to some of these experiences including divorce, marriage, friendship, and problems that people experience in their lifetimes. Some things that she wrote about I did not relate to, but it touched me and made me realize some of the hardships of life. In her book Dreamland, a teen girl has to cope with her sister suddenly leaving and her abusive boyfriend. As her world falls apart, she loses sight of her normal life and pulls away from the people that love her. As I read this book and many of her other books, I realized how good my life is and it also let me see the suffering that some people have to go through.

2.) Margaret Peterson Haddix- This amazing author has written many books in a wide variety including the Shadow Children series, Running Out of Time, Turnabout, and Uprising. She writes a variety of books, but people are able to connect to all of them and they are astonishing. Each of her books touch base on problems that we have faced, are facing today, and problems that we may run into in the future including the economy, families, and the government. Whether her books are set in the future, in the historical past, or the present, I was able to relate to the characters that she created. They all seemed life-like since the events they were experiencing are ones that people face every day. All of her books are also interesting and action packed as the characters run into all sorts of problems. In Margaret Peterson Haddix’s book Uprising, three different girls from totally different worlds come together and support each other in the early 1900’s. This book was about the fire at the shirtwaist factory and how these three girls’ lives were altered by the strike at the Shirtwaist factory and the fire. This book helped me to learn about this significant event and it also showed me how hard people’s lives used to be.

1.) Stephanie Meyer- Stephanie Meyer is the brilliant author the Twilight series and a few other books. She has created characters and a plot line in the Twilight Series that make readers fascinated with her books. The plot line that she has created never bores the reader.
